No art form has completely disappeared with the arrival of a new technology, even if some practices have lost their central role. Wall painting, the oldest form of art, is still very much alive today.
However, AI is different: it is the first technology capable of generating high-quality content on a massive scale and at very high speed. This disruption is real, especially on an economic level.
What threatens the digital art scene the most today is not so much AI itself, but the widespread suspicion, the "Is it AI ?" thing, and discouragement it causes among many artists. Historically, art has always become more democratized, and the number of creators has kept increasing. The readymade had already redefined the boundaries of creation; AI is pushing this logic much further.
It’s a real challenge. It can be overcome, but it will require significant adaptations. In the long term, I remain optimistic about art, even if profound transformations are inevitable.
